As we flow through the summer months in 2021 there remains a continuing feeling of uncertainty about how our service to society will include the much-valued interpersonal connections that have been enjoyed by Rotary Rotarians in earlier times. Although the mantra of hands faces will certainly remain a part of our daily practice, it's evident that confidence is building and face-to-face reconnections are being made. Rotary is, however, changed. However, there is a certain amount of uncertainty moving into summer 2021. It is yet to be seen how the human connections that Rotary participants valued previously will be maintained. While the traditional 'hands in face space' is sure to continue to be a component of our practice, it's evident that the confidence building is evident and face-to-face reconnections are being made. Rotary is, however, having changed. Rotary networks help to build lasting friendships. The outbreak has forced us to improve our technology techniques. We maintain our business online, but we have also introduced a volunteer and social activities. Our newfound opportunities have combined with our lessons from previous outbreaks to bring a fresh perspective to Rotary. In a recent Rotary survey it was heartening to find that 75% of clubs have started making plans for their "business routine initiatives" The summer months saw many of our club members on the move, focusing on initiatives such as cleaning the beach and river, litter cleaning, and the ongoing service to society from Rotary volunteer teams giving their time to support COVID vaccination and test centres. I'm so grateful that Rotary allowed me to join in 2002. Rotary provided me, as it has for so many others, with a network of trustworthy like-minded individuals from whom I've made genuine connections during the last twenty years.
